Podcast #10: From Sick Care to Health Care: How to Stay Ahead of Disease with Richard Gamiz
The United States does not really have a healthcare system. It has a disease care system. We wait for people to get sick and then try to intervene and make them well again. What if we could use hard data to prevent disease through changes in lifestyle augmented with naturally-occurring supplements rather than intercede with pharmaceuticals?
Richard Gamiz of Jacksonville, Florida is trying to do just that. He is using standard laboratory testing as well as genetic analysis of DNA sequences to alter his clients’ lifestyle by understanding their proclivities toward disease and changing their path to sickness. He also uses epigenetics, the action of environmental factors on gene expression to improve his clients’ health before they get sick.
We spoke with Rich to learn how he discovered this approach, how he uses it to help his clients, and how his approach might actually save the health care system money, even as insurance will pay for none of his services.
